DDD-Approved Behavioral Services at BahhCare
At BahhCare, we provide DDD-approved Behavioral Services that support adults with intellectual developmental disabilities in building meaningful skills, strengthening emotional regulation, and improving everyday functioning. Our services are overseen by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and are grounded in evidence-based, ethical practices tailored to each individual’s needs.
We recognize that behavior is a form of communication. Rather than focusing on control, we work to understand each individual’s challenges, remove barriers to success, and teach practical skills that promote positive outcomes at home, within the program, and throughout the community.
What Our Behavioral Services Include
1) Comprehensive Behavioral Assessment
Every behavioral plan begins with an individualized assessment process led by our BCBA. This may include:
- Reviewing the individual’s history, goals, and current supports
- Direct observation in daily routines and activities
- Interviews with the individual (when appropriate), family/guardian, and support team
- Identifying patterns: triggers, maintaining factors, and what the person is gaining or avoiding
- Determining the function of behaviors (what the behavior “does” for the individual)
This assessment helps us develop a plan that is personal, respectful, and realistic, not generic.

2) Individualized Behavior Support Plans
Based on assessment findings, our BCBA develops a Behavior Support Plan that outlines:
- Clear, measurable behavioral goals
- Preventative strategies (how to reduce triggers before they occur)
- Teaching strategies (what new skills we will build to replace challenging behaviors)
- Reinforcement strategies (how we encourage and strengthen positive behaviors)
- Response strategies (how staff respond safely and consistently if behaviors occur)
- Safety considerations and crisis protocols when needed
Plans are designed to support success while protecting each individual’s dignity, privacy, and rights.
3) Skill Acquisition and Replacement Behaviors
A core part of our services is teaching skills that make life easier and more independent. Depending on individual needs, goals may include:
Communication & Self-Advocacy
- Functional communication (asking for help, a break, attention, or a preferred item)
- Expressing wants/needs appropriately
- Using verbal language, AAC, visuals, or other supports as appropriate
Emotional Regulation & Coping
- Recognizing feelings and early warning signs
- Coping strategies (breathing, movement breaks, calming routines)
- Tolerating waiting, transitions, and changes in routine
Daily Living & Independence
- Following a schedule and completing routines
- Increasing independence with tasks and community participation
- Building problem-solving skills
Social Skills
- Respectful interaction, personal space, and boundaries
- Joining groups, turn-taking, and conversation skills
- Reducing social conflict and improving cooperation
Instead of focusing solely on reducing challenging behavior, we prioritize teaching skills that are useful across settings.

4) Behavior Reduction Strategies (Respectful and Evidence-Based)
When a person displays challenging behaviors such as aggression, self-injury, elopement (wandering), refusal, property destruction, or severe anxiety-related behaviors, we use strategies that are:
- Evidence-based
- Least restrictive whenever possible
- Rooted in dignity and safety
- Consistent across staff and settings
Our approach typically includes:
- Prevention and environmental supports (structure, visual schedules, clear expectations)
- Teaching replacement skills
- Positive reinforcement systems
- Safe, calm staff responses that do not escalate behavior
- Data-informed adjustments based on what works
We also focus on reducing stressors that can contribute to behavior, such as sensory overload, communication frustration, or unclear routines.
5) Ongoing Monitoring, Data Collection, and Progress Tracking
Behavioral services are not “set it and forget it.” Our BCBA monitors progress through:
- Data collection by trained staff during programming
- Regular review of trends and patterns
- Adjustments to interventions when needed
- Clear progress updates tied to measurable goals
This ensures services remain effective, meaningful, and aligned with the individual’s plan and real-life outcomes.

6) BCBA Oversight, Staff Training, and Consistent Implementation
A plan is only successful when it is implemented consistently. Our BCBA provides:
- Staff training on behavior principles and plan procedures
- Coaching and modeling in real-time situations
- Support for de-escalation and proactive strategies
- Quality assurance checks to ensure fidelity (doing the plan correctly)
This helps create a stable environment where individuals experience predictable, supportive responses, reducing anxiety and improving outcomes.
7) Family, Guardian, and Team Collaboration
The best progress happens when everyone is working together. Our BCBA collaborates with:
- Families and guardians
- Support coordinators and interdisciplinary team members
- Other providers and specialists (as appropriate)
We welcome input about what works at home, preferred routines, and meaningful goals. When appropriate, we can also support carryover strategies to strengthen skills across settings.
Our Commitment to Dignity and Ethical Care
BahhCare’s Behavioral Services are provided with a strong commitment to:
- Respecting personal rights and autonomy
- Maintaining privacy and confidentiality
- Using positive, ethical, and least restrictive practices
- Promoting independence, not dependence
We aim to help individuals build lasting skills that improve everyday life, not just short-term behavior changes.
